Phil Best - creator of Musically Fluent

Phil is a pianist, teacher, singer and composer/arranger/producer of over twenty years' experience. He trained at the Royal Northern College of Music as a first study pianist with Ryszard Bakst and graduated in 1989 with 1st class honours. He has also studied with Ella Pounder, Denis Matthews, Renna Kellaway and is currently working with Bryce Morrison. At the RNCM, he won the Elizabeth Hannah Lees Scholarship and the Frederick Dawson Piano Prize. From the age of just eleven, he appeared as soloist in numerous concerto and recital performances.

Phil opted out of the competitive classical piano arena to pursue a wide diversity of interests in other styles and aspects of music. He studied singing and production and is at home both in the studio and on stage. As well as performing, Phil is a highly experienced teacher and music coach. He has worked with large groups and one-to-one. In addition to piano, Phil teaches voice, composition and production, always applying his unique approach to music training. He is also an eclectic composer, having written in many different styles and genres. He is based in London.

His innate musicianship combines with technical mastery to make him a musician of rare versatility and range. He champions ways of making music which embody his teaching values of fluency and natural expressiveness. He has been developing radical teaching methods, ideas and resources for the past 12 years in his quest to train others to become musically fluent.
